Community Garden Opens for 2014

It may seem impossible, but in a few weeks the snow will be gone and it will be time to start our gardens for this season.  I’m sure I’m not the only one ready for that to happen!

With the news of the drought in California and how it will affect our ability to access affordable and fresh produce this year, now is the time to put your garden dreams into practice.  We have lots of room in the Prairie Farm Community Garden, just waiting for you to come and work the soil for your seeds to sprout and grow.  Just imagine the joys of homegrown tomatoes and fresh sweet corn—all grown by you in a sunny plot of land!

Community groups and childrens’ organizations are encouraged to adopt a garden space for the season.  Maybe you could help fill the shelves of the Prairie Farm-Ridgeland Food Pantry?  What a great service project that could be.  We even have FREE seeds available for gardeners—there’s a huge selection of both favorite varieties and the more unusual specimens, something for everyone from novice to experienced gardener.  A lending library of tools is available on-site as well.  Rental fees are available on a sliding scale, so don’t let financial worries about renting a plot get you down.  For information on how to reserve your spot, please contact Cris Cantin at 715-418-1886 (cris.cantin@yahoo.com)

We’re looking forward to seeing you in the garden!
